As any parent knows, kids grow at an alarming rate. And it seems that the bigger the size, the more expensive the price tags at your local clothing store. That’s when used clothing can bridge the gap until they reach a stage where you know things will last for a bit.

A used clothing store is a great place to find play clothes. Kids are rough on what they wear, as soon as they start to crawl. By the time they are toddling, falling down, and playing in the dirt, the amount of wear you get out of an article decreases pretty fast. What lasted your first child for several months, might be worn out after a few weeks with child number two.

Your best buys in used clothing, for children and adults, will be the things that are everyday wear, like pants, shirts, sweaters, and jackets. For the most part, you can expect to see fairly decent quality in good, used clothing stores. After all, they’re not going to make many sales if what they offer isn’t clean, in good condition, and appealing to the shopper.

While some stores buy from consumers, or sell on consignment, a lot of them will also carry items that have been purchased in large lots from businesses that have closed. So not only will you find new to you items, but some will be completely new.

Saving on day-to-day clothing, means that you can afford to catalog shop for special occasion items, or things like boots and shoes. One tip for getting the most out of your used clothing shopping sprees, is to watch for sales, or ask the staff when sales will be advertised. Many of them offer end of season bonanzas, with “buy one, get one free” specials.
