Free Information For Childhood Substance Abuse Prevention Program
Building Blocks for a Healthy Future is an early childhood substance abuse prevention program that was developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The program educates parents and caregivers about the basics of prevention in order to promote a healthy lifestyle. The program is designed for parents and caregivers of children 3 to 6 years of age. Building Blocks will help you open up the lines of communication with young children. It will also make it much easier to keep the lines of communication open easier as your children grow up.
On the Building Blocks site there are many readers and listening tools that you can download in order to show your children the basics of prevention. Just a few of the easy readers that are geared to children of different ages, which will be shown on the website, are Play Day in the Park, Look what I can do!, Family Guide and Activity Book. These are just a few examples of what readers are available on the site. There are also sing along songs and a coloring book that is available through the site.
All of the readers can be viewed first and then downloaded as they are all in PDF format. On the site there is an “About Us” link that will tell more about the program and what the SAMHSA is trying to accomplish. There is also an opportunity for you to sign up for, free of charge, The Building Blocks Bulletin, which will provide you with highlights of what’s new on the Web site. There is also a resources link that will how you where they have compiled their materials from various publications, Internet resources, and Federal resources. There is a “Contact Us” link as well where you can ask any questions or make any comments about the site. One the “Contact Us” link there is also a “FAQ” link to some of the most common questions that are asked. On the bottom of the site is a site map, which makes looking though the site what you are looking for just that much easier.
Children need to learn from an early age the basics of prevention in order to promote a healthy lifestyle. With the Building Blocks program you can do exactly that for your children.
