Free Coupons - Is What You Get, Really Free?

One of the most popular advertising promotions ever invented, was the free coupon. Since consumers were going to be shopping in their stores anyway, businesses began offering free coupons on certain products, with the idea that having saved on that item, they would then purchase a complementary one, or shop for something else with the money they saved.

While it started out mainly as an advertising stunt and promotional tool for retailers, the strategy is now used by almost every business you can think of, including services. You can even get restaurant coupons.

The free restaurant coupon comes in handy, particularly for family dining. It may cover anything from a free pizza, when you buy one of equal size and value, or it could be an entire meal free, for every meal or specified number of meals purchased.

A free restaurant coupon can also include beverages, desserts, and salad bars, at no charge. There are no hidden fees or extra charges on your bill, so as long as you have a valid coupon, what you get, really is free. The fact that in some cases you’re required to purchase something, is not considered a charge or fee. The reasoning is that you were going to have X number of people dining anyway, so in buying the meal for one or more, you are saving on the dinner costs for others in your family or group.

The best places to find a restaurant coupon are your local evening paper, Sunday special editions, flyers in the daily paper, and in coupon books marketed by local groups.
