Magazines For Every Interest - Good Reading Is Close At Hand

A lot of consumers have never developed a preference for reading long works, like novels and non-fiction books, but still like to read for entertainment. For them, picking up the latest issue of their favorite periodical, is as easy as reaching for the magazine display rack by the grocery checkout.

This is prime display territory, since consumers are literally captive audiences while standing in line and waiting. That’s why the “scandal rags”, as they are known, put their most lurid headlines and unbelievable photos on the cover. Because anything that draws the interest of the observer, means they are halfway to selling that magazine.

The magazine display rack has many uses for retailers and other business that work in tandem with them. For example, it serves the retailer’s interested to entertain the customers who are waiting in line. They also benefit from people who pick up a free copy of the local community paper, auto sales periodical, or Trading Post magazines. The best advertising of any kind, is word of mouth. Not only is it free for the producers of the magazines, but it brings more customers into the store when someone else tells them what they found in the papers, and which store they found the magazine display rack in.

Major magazines will also sometimes run “specials”, where an issue is plastic wrapped, because it contains a free supplement that would otherwise be taken from the rack, without buying the magazine. Those are always put in display racks that are placed in prominent or high traffic locations, to attract the most buyer interest.
