To the great good fortune of the animals, most pet owners are responsible people that not only care for their pets, but who treat them as family members. That can mean everything from a good diet and exercise, plus regular check-ups, to having an animal sitter come in for the times they are away from home.

Finding a good pet supply store isn’t too hard in most cities, but the real prize is when you find one that is associated with other individuals or business that offer specialized pet services.

For example, while the pet supply store may not carry them, they could put you in touch with breeders who supply such specialty items as mice for feeding snakes, or other live insects and worms for fish or reptiles. Having that referral can save you a lot of time with the phone book or Internet, chasing down another pet supply store that can provide what your pet needs.

Often, the larger pet supply stores will have in-house grooming and other pet services, either run by their own staff, or by an individual who rents space on their premises. Opportunities like this are great, because you have the chance to drop off the dog to be clipped and bathed, while you pick up their food and go do other errands.

If a store’s staff is unable to help you with specific pet services, you may find them listed on their free bulletin boards, or in the complimentary catalogs that can usually be found at the checkout.
